Levi Di Candilo State Road Racing Championships final round wrapped up in fine style:
Last Sunday a dream was realised for the BHS Racing team when they took out both the Superbike and Supersport State Championships at the final round of the Levi Di Candilo State Road Racing Championships.
The first title decided on the day was the ‘B’ Grade Solo Series and once again Mark Schnierer (Trackdayz Kawasaki 1000) dominated as he has done all year and he scorched to victory in the race, second was Chris Galbraith (Weld West Suzuki GSXR 1000) and third was Jamie Boland (Savage Suzuki GSXR 1000). The final points were Schnierer 120 points, Boland second with 99 and Galbraith third on 96.
As previously reported Matt Battista (BHS Racing Yamaha R1) secured the title with a round to spare. He was suffering the effects of a shoulder injury but he didn’t let that stop him, he wanted to win all fourteen races for the year and to lower the domestic lap record for Superbikes into the 56 second bracket. It goes without saying that he achieved both with another dominant display. He lowered the lap record to 56.93 sec in the first race and then continued his dominance by convincingly winning the final two races to win fourteen races in a row. Chris Galbraith took the runner-up spot with Mark Schnierer third. Ben Stronach made a successful return to racing following his broken pelvis with a second, third and fifth placings. Battista scored a perfect 350 points with Galbraith on 243 and Schnierer on 225.
The BHS Engineering State Supersport Championship which looked like it might even go down to the final race of the day was decided at the end of race one when Cameron Stronach (BHS Racing Yamaha R6) amassed enough points to claim victory, when his nearest rival Brad Fletcher (Weld West Yamaha R6) could only manage tenth place after a mishap handing the title to Stronach. Tom Hatton (Steel Blue Racing Yamaha R6) again proved that he is prepared to put in the effort taking a second and two third places to take the runner-up spot by 1.5 points over Fletcher with Adam Senior (Rick Gill Honda CBR 600) fourth. Stronach scored a total of 313.5 points, Hatton scored 245.5 with Fletcher on 243, and Senior scored 212.5 points. Cameron Keevers took out the Superstock series with 287.5 points from Glenn Hopkins on 249 points and Jason Walker on 239.5 in what was a very hard fought series.
The Riverton Pool Services Sidecar Championship was as predicted won by Lindsay Fagan/Yancy Ross although the Walker brothers Darryn and Neal took the fight up to them all day but in the end experience told and Fagan/Ross won two races and finished second in the other securing the title with 285 points. The Walker brothers were second on 262 and Doug Williamson and Geoff Jackson took a fighting third place on 235 points.
In the Formula Two series Ric Steele (Motomax TZ 250) won the series although he suffered a crash in the basin during race one but came back strongly to win the second race and the title with 198 points, second was Anthony Robson (Rick Gill Honda RS 125) with 187 and Colin Rose (Rick’s Motorcycle School Suzuki SV 650) was third with 175 points. B Humphreys (Highway Yamaha B & M Special took the win in race one and scored 165 points for fourth place.
Ric Steele and Jason Walker (Prestige Honda CBR 600) shared the spoils in the Clubman 600 races and Trevor Arthur (Witch Cycles Suzuki GSXR 1000) won both the 1000 races.
The next race meeting will be on 16th-18th November.

Motorcycle Racing Club Final round of the Levi Di Candilo State Road Racing Championships at Barbagallo Raceway.
With all championships alive with the exception of the “Steel Blue Superbike Championship” which Matt Battista (BHS Racing Yamaha R1) took out with a round to spare, the action will be full on with several riders in the mix for championships and series wins.
In the final race of the “B” Grade Series current leader Mark Schnierer (Trackdayz Kawasaki 1000) has done all the hard work and now has to just finish with some good points as he enjoys a 14 point lead over second placed Jamie Boland (Savage Suzuki GSXR 1000) with third placed Chris Galbraith (Weld West Suzuki GSXR 1000) a further 5 points adrift.
Even though the Superbike Championship has been won several riders have a point to prove and none more than Ben Stronach (Drilling & Grouting Suzuki GSXR 1000) who was the champion in 2006. His 2007 season didn’t get off to the best of starts and he was always playing catch up until in practice for Round 3 he stepped of the bike at close to 180 kph and cracked his pelvis in three places along with other injuries that have kept him off the bike until this round. He will be keen to prove that he can still mix it at the front of the field. Galbraith, Boland and Schnierer who are second, third and fourth respectively will be desperate to cement their positions in the championship. Russell Nash (Steel Blue Racing Yamaha R1 / R6) has had to withdraw from his second consecutive round as he struggles to overcome the wrist injury that he sustained in practice for Round 3. Champion elect Matt Battista is also injured with a small crack in his shoulder blade following a race crash at Eastern Creek but is hopeful of being able to ride as he wants to win every race this year.
The BHS SupersportChampionship is another that is fiercely contested, defending Champion Cameron Stronach (BHS Racing Yamaha R6) who holds a 44.5 point advantage over second placed Brad Fletcher (Weld West Yamaha R6), third placed Tom Hatton (Steel Blue Yamaha R6) will be keen to do well before he heads East to contest the GP support races at Phillip Island on the 13th – 14th October. Stronach is certainly riding well enough to take out his second consecutive Supersport Championship.
In the Riverton Pool Services Sidecar Championship only 18 points separate first placed Lindsay Fagan / Yancy Ross and the second placed Walker brothers Darryn and Neal with Rob Taylor / Dean Napier third with 186 points. The title will go to one of these three, with wily veteran Lindsay Fagan in the box seat he has many years of experience under his belt along with two consecutive National Championships so he should be able to get home for yet another State title.
The Formula Two Series will go down to the wire with current leader Ric Steele 175 points holding a 24 point advantage over Anthony Robson with Colin Rose third a further ten points adrift. Veteran Bob Humphreys is one rider who could throw a spanner in the works and whilst he hasn’t had the best of years he is still very much on the pace as he proved with a run away win in the first race of the fourth round.
There will also be races for the Clubman 600 and Clubman 1000 classes. Practice from 9.00am with the first race scheduled for 11.45am.

Aitchison looks to future after solid top 5 Superstock finish in 2007
For Immediate Release: 14th October, 2007.
The final event of the World Superstock Championship at Magny Cours in France summed up a solid season for Australian rider Mark Aitchison, with his 5th placing in the race reflecting his final championship standing.
Aitchison described his season as a rollercoaster ride, and said that while some things fell in his favour throughout the 11 rounds, some things were in complete contrast, with bad luck often playing a part.
Last weekend’s round produced both positives and negatives for the dedicated Aussie, who was pushing the leaders hard under race conditions before a lack of grip forced him to consolidate and guide his Celani Suzuki to the finish line.
“I picked up on the track well and found a reasonable setting with the bike,” Aitchison explained.
“I got a good start in the race and whilst in third place I experienced the front tyre sliding around a lot, so I opted to roll off a little and bring my bike home across the last few laps.”
He said the closeness of the competition throughout the 11-round season meant consistent frontrunning finishes were needed in every race.
“In the end I was 5th in the championship, which was not where I wanted to be although I have to be happy with my results throughout the year considering a few things were against me from the start.”
“Where I finished today in the race would have given me the championship, if I had not crashed while in the lead at Vallelunga last week. This is how tight Superstock racing is and everyone close to me knows what went wrong and how to fix the problem for next year.”
“I can now move on from this learning experience and I am so determined to give myself an opportunity at a world championship.”
He went on to offer thanks to all of his supporters – family, friends, sponsors, crew and fans – who have ridden the highs and lows of his first season aboard.
“I have to thank everyone around me who has supported me this year. I have some great sponsors, friends and family who are just as determined as me to win a championship.”
“Now I will put all my energy and focus into preparing and planning for next year.”
The championship standings finished up for 2007 as follows:
1 Canepa ITA 161
2 Corti ITA 157
3 Baiocco ITA 153
4 Simeon BEL 138
5 Aitchison AUS 132
6 Dionisi ITA 111
7 Pirro ITA 85
8 Van Keymeulen BEL 83
9 Badovini ITA 67
10 Roberts AUS 65
Mark would like to thank his supporters and the following sponsors in assisting his World Superstock campaign: AXO Leathers, X-Lite Helmets, BHS Engineering, Speed Secrets and Hunter Valley Paintball.

MEDIA RELEASE - August 07
JOHN INNES.
With their prayers for fine weather answered WA’s road racers took to the track at Barbagallo Raceway last Sunday for the penultimate round of Levi Di Candilo State Road Racing Championships. Everybody was focused and ready to go by the time the first race started at 11.30am.
The ‘B’ grade race opened the meeting and set the standard for the day with great racing from the front runners in the end Mark Schnierer (Trackdayz Kawasaki 1000) took the win from Chris Galbraith (Weld West Suzuki GSXR 1000) with Jamie Boland (Savage Suzuki GSXR 1000) third. Cameron Keevers (KRS Racing Honda CBR 600) put up a great show and was the first 600 to finish. Schnierer leads with 95 points from Boland 81 and Galbraith 76.
The Steel Blue Superbike Championship has been run and won with a round to spare such has been the dominance of Matt Battista (BHS Racing Yamaha R1). Battista as he has done all season took three completely unchallenged wins to boost his season’s tally to 11 wins form 11 starts and it is now clear that he is in a class of his own with or without the likes of Ben Stronach or Russell Nash in the field.
Schnierer and Galbraith shared the minor placings in all three races. Battista has 275 points and can’t be beaten, second is Galbraith with 192, third is Jamie Boland with 178 and fourth is Schnierer with 167 points.
Battista told me, “It’s a dream really, I don’t even have to ride next round, but I will ‘cause I want to win 14 out of 14. Coming back from last time in 1996 to ride Superbikes straight up is pretty full on. I really want to thank Barry and Myra Black (team owners) for making this dream a reality, without them it simply wouldn’t have happened.”
The BHS Engineering Supersport Championship took a couple of twists before it got back on track. Cameron Stronach (BHS Racing Yamaha R6) took a comfortable win in the first race from Brad Fletcher and Cameron Keevers.
In the second race Fletcher took himself and Stronach out at turn one and they both rejoined at the back of the field, the race was one by Tom Hatton (Steel Blue Racing Yamaha R6) from Keevers and Adam Senior (WP Suspensions Honda CBR 600). Stronach rode with great determination to charge through the field to finish sixth with Fletcher twelfth.
In the final race Stronach made short work of getting to the front and won the race from Hatton and Keevers. Fletcher was fourth. Stronach has a lead of 44.5 points over Fletcher in second, third is Tom Hatton with 185.5 points.
Keevers continues to dominate the Superstock with yet another clean sweep. He now has 262.5 points in total; Glen Hopkins (Five Star Yamaha R6) is second on 198 points.
The Riverton Pool Services Sidecar Championship again proved ultra competitive. Lindsay Fagan/Yancy Ross took two wins and a second and lead the championship on 215 points. The Walker brothers had a win a second and a third and now have 197 points and sit in second. Rob Taylor/Dean Napier had two thirds and a second and are third with 186 points.
In the Formula Two Series Bob Humphreys (Highway Yamaha 125) looked to have done the double until he disappeared at half race distance in the second leg allowing Ric Steele to take an easy win. Humphreys had won the first in convincing style by 6.5 seconds. By virtue of a second and a win Steele took the overall win on the day from Colin Rose (Ricks Motorcycle School Suzuki 650) and Anthony Robson (Rick Gill Motorcycles Honda RS 125). Steele leads the series with 175 points from Robson 151 and Rose 141.
In the Clubman 600 series Jason Walker (Honda CBR 600) was the victor on the day from Ric Steele (Motomax Yamaha TZ 250GP)
In the 1000 Clubman series Shane Martin (Albany Motorcycles Yamaha R1) took both race wins with Matthew Fathers (Wayne Patterson Ducati 996) second on the day.
Next Round in this Levi Di Candilo State Road Racing Championship is September 9th more details
WA BHS Engineering team BHS Racing did not go home empty handed….from Eastern Creek.
BHS Engineering team BHS Racing firstly would like to thank everyone involved in producing this event and the biggest thanks to the Marshals and flaggies who work tirelessly at each event but particularly on Sunday 19th August in the wettest conditions.
The team’s weekend had mixed results due to the weather conditions with both riders crashing out on Sunday. However we did not go home to WA empty handed.
BHS Racing Supersport rider Cameron Stronach was the Outright Winner of the BCD Grade Privateer Cup in the 2007 YMF Loan Supersport Championship with 299 points. Having challenged throughout the season at every round in a superior class this is a fantastic achievement for our young rider. Cameron currently holds the WA Supersport Championship 2006 and has a 44.5 point lead in the 2007 championship. He rides again at Barbagallo Raceway WA September 9th and is set to retain his title.
Our weekend was topped by winning the Australian Motorcycle News Best Presented Team award at Round 8 Eastern Creek of the 2007 YMF Loan Australian Superbike Championship event.
The highlight of the weekend was Sundays Superbike Race where BHS Racing rider Matt Battista battled along with everyone else in the worst weather conditions and the delay for the first Superbike Championship race which started at 15:52 was truly wet.
Matt Battista on his Yamaha R1 was on the grid in 16th place and was confident that he could be in the top 5. Within minutes of the race start WA 2007 Superbike Champion and 25 times MX State Champion Matt Battista had stormed through the pack to take 10 riders in one lap and was sitting in 6th Place. Loving wet weather conditions we were confident he would achieve his goal to be in the top 5.
He began to hassle Craig Coxhell and within half a lap had taken Craig and now into 4th place. The Pit Garage was screaming for Matt to drive it home for WA and the team.
With only 3 laps to run the standing was:
1 Shannon JOHNSON Kawasaki ZX10R 1:51.103 2 / 5
2 Daniel STAUFFER Yamaha R1 4.211 1:53.333 2 / 5
3 Shawn GILES Suzuki GSXR 15.493 1:55.161 3 / 5
4 Matt BATTISTA Yamaha R1 17.773 1:55.687 4 / 5
5 Trent GIBSON Suzuki GSXR 17.913 1:55.220 4 / 5
6 Craig COXHELL Suzuki GSXR 18.774 1:56.878 2 / 5
7 Scott CHARLTON Yamaha R1 28.257 1:57.851 2 / 5
Matt Battista had a moment and loses a position allowing Shawn Giles to be challenged by Trent Gibson who was looking to take third position for the podium!!!
Last lap board out it was possible for Matt to still come fourth but he was down with a High side.
This was a disaster for Matt as he was on fire to take out his best YMF Loan Superbike finish ever in the top 5.
Congratulations from BHS Racing to the Winner on the day Shannon Johnson, Dan Stauffer in second place and Gibson third. Also to the series championship Winner Jamie Stauffer with Dan Stauffer and Craig Coxhell equal 2nd.
This being our first Year attending the YMF Loan Australian Superbike Championship Series has had many challenges for us as a privateer team and we could not have done it without transport assistance from Rent WA and our other support sponsors who have made it achievable.
We take this opportunity to thank: Rent WA, Belray, NavCom Piping, 5 Star Yamaha WA, Racersedge, Tiger Angel, Graves Imports, RMP Panel and Paint, DID, NGK, SIDI & SHOEI and all the staff at BHS Engineering.
On returning home Matt still suffering from the fall has had X-rays and has sustained a break in the shoulder blade area. We all hope he recovers fast as the last round of the WA Steel Blue Superbike Championships is up on Sunday 9th September. Matt has already won this Championship but would like to beat his lap record of 0:57.110.
All the team wishes you a speedy recovery Matt.
Extra Special thanks to the following people who travel as part of the WA team and support to BHS Racing:
-
Ray Anset - Drives the Rent WA truck to every round and rides in Superstock and FX.

Well done and Thank you.
Queensland YMF Loan Australian Superbike Championship double header rounds 6 & 7 June 28th - 1st July 2007.
BHS Racing packed up on a very wet and wild night Friday 22nd June heading off to Queensland.
Riding for BHS Engineering at Queensland Raceway BHS Racing’s Supersport rider # 57 Cameron Stronach on his 2006 Yamaha R6 ( # 52 in YMF Loan Series) and Superbike rider # 75 Matt “Maulla” Battista. As part of the WA Team Ray Anset # 94 on his Suzuki 600 and Cameron Keevers # 20 (# 53 in YMF Loan Series) riding a Honda CBR 600 both riders are competing in the YMF Loan Series Superstock and along with Stuart Campbell # 30 have entered the Flexirider Insurance Formula Extreme Cup. Unfortunately Elizabeth Haren who had entered along with Stuart should have been riding her Yamaha R1 at this event however due to injuries sustained at WA State Rd 3 she has to sit this one out…not a happy bunny.
Driving the BHS Racing truck to Ipswich Queensland was Ray Anset and Jamie Boland. The drive over was not without problems as the roads were extremely bumpy some of the worst Ray has come across this year causing some windscreen damage. Thanks again to our local WA transport company owner Michael Lenderink along with his well trained staff Steve and Laura of Rent WA in South Guilford, being the only transport company to allow us to take a truck out of the State.
The team would like to give a special thanks to a number of people who travelled with us:
- Jamie Bolland for his assistance driving, excellent team work, his pit crew assistance to each rider. He worked tirelessly and still managed to get up at the crack of dawn and drive the truck home with Ray Anset after the Sunday night Bash.
- Tracey Mineham for her massages and assistance in preparing breakfast and lunches.
- Kristy Abott who worked with Nik Jarrett as pit crew to Matt Battista (first time she change a wheel and did a great job).
- Elyse Battista who was the best Grid Girl for Superbike and Supersport and along with Kristy could leapfrog over the Pit Wall…wicked.
On arriving at the track the garage was set up and bikes ready to go through scrutineer all thanks to Ray Anset and Jamie Bolland. Thank goodness they were there early as our flight from Perth was delayed and traffic hold-ups from Brisbane airport put us at least an hour behind.
All the riders and crew were exhausted and as the day grew dark (around 5pm) and as the cold night chill was settling in we were all glad to get back to a warm meal and a good nights rest.
Thursday:
Weather was cold and windy and riders were up and ready to go at 6.30am and onto a track walk by 7am which certainly had to be one of the worst tracks they had seen. Riders briefing over by 8.30am back to the garage to prepare for the first time out on this track. First up was Superstock at 9am, they would be able to give heads up to Cameron Stronach and Matt Battista on track conditions. From the look on there faces it was AGH!!!
Overall it went good and we survived the first day without incident so off home to a Massage, a good home cooked meal for all and early to bed ready for qualifying in all classes.
Friday:
With Matt stuggling with flu and nasty cough we were concerned that he would not be able to ride. however thanks to the medical team at the track he was given oxygen to assist his breathing and clear his head making sure he was comfortable enough to ride the whole weekend.
His weekend was not without incident when during first qualifying he lost the bike going along the straight leading to turn 4, true to form he managed to pick up the bike and ride it back to the pits.
Barry assessed the damage and with Nik and Kristy they got to work quickly using spare parts from the spare bike ready to go again in the second qualifying session. Happy with his times considering his poor health on the day Matt was ready to go home to bed.
Cameron also had problems in his first qualifying session when the engine decided it was not going to continue and it was brought back to the pits. Team technicians again were in full swing with the decision to swap the engine from the second bike into the number one bike which was geared up for the track conditions. Barry along with Murray, Ken and Jamie set to work and had this bike fully prepared by the end of the day ready for Saturdays race.
A difficult and testing day for both riders and crew however team work made it all happen. Read more in Rider Reports.
August 13th: The Final Battle Of The 2007 ASC Is Set To Commence
Eastern Creek Raceway Sunday 19th August
The final round of the 2007 YMF Loan Australian Superbike Championship is set to be the shining highlight and the hardest fought out of the 2007 series.
There is a lot at stake at the final round for all the factory contracted riders who intend to stay in Australia and those vying for their rides and last but not least the riders that are planning to head OS. With quiet a number of Factory riders looking at going overseas for 2008 and the ASC being the platform they use to impress overseas teams and sponsors this is their last chance to show their worth to an overseas team.
The Eastern Creek round will also be the last chance for existing and aspiring Factory racers to impress the local Team Managers who will need to find riders to replace their departing stars and those who may not be given the opportunity to return to the Team in 2008. To say there is a lot at stake at this round is a huge understatement.
On top of the battles that will rage in the Superbike and Supersport races to secure top rides in 2008 all the other major support classes are set to provide excellent racing with the largest fields for the year ready to make their mark over the weekends racing.
Over 200 competitors have entered the final round at Eastern Creek making it the largest road race meeting in Australia in 2007.
This is a round of the 2007 YMF Loan Australian Superbike Championship that shouldn’t be missed by any motorsport fan who wants to see the best motor racing action of any motorsport series in Australia, be it on Two or Four wheels!

Steelblue Superbikes race leader Matt Battista riding for the BHS Engineering Team will be looking to continue his perfect score and add another 3 race wins to his current total of 8 wins and increase the lead in what could be his first ever road racing championship title.
