Maulla News:

Saturday 18th October:  Matt has achieved his goal to be home permanently with his loving family and for his young daughters 2nd Birthday.   What many of you do not know is that Matt has been told that the Heterotopic Ossification (HO) has been diagnosed as inoperable at this time and could be fatal if attempted.  This is devastating news to Matt and his family.  For everyone concerned this motorbike crash has had insurmountable ramifications and Matt’s life has changed in ways that many of you cannot imagine.

His new website www.maullainc.com will have regular health news and also offer you the racing fraternity an option to donate and assist Matt in this terrible tragedy.  Until this part of the site is up and running please consider donating via the information on this site….clickhere

Thursday 2nd October: Current health issues are compounding with the limited movement and continued pain in his left shoulder he has also contracted a terrible infection below the calf area of his right leg.  An infection created by a small nik in his leg some 6/7 weeks ago which has developed into Endemic Methicillin Resistance Staph Aureus (EMRSA) - commonly known as Golden Staph.  This is requiring daily treatment and possibly needs to be operated on to remove the infection.

He has also had numerous bladder infections and now today has been told after an X-Ray done on Wednesday that it appears he has Heterotopic Ossification (HO) which seemingly is the development of bone in abnormal areas.

In Matt’s case it has been confirmed to be in his hips which is why he cannot bend forward, this is a major problem and something that could be 12 months down the track before he can have an operation to correct…if possible.

A meeting due next week with an Orthopedic Consultant will determine the next stage of  development.

Given the current climate of his health situation this is terrible news for Matt and his family as it could mean additional time spent in hospital and more than likely a major operation.  Matt had set a goal that he would be home permanently for his daughters 2nd birthday on the 18th October this will be a challenge given the recent news.

Matt said in a recent interview that losing the power of your legs in a spinal injury was the easy part but the other indescribable areas lost to someone with this disability is insurmountable.

Friday 12th September - Today Matt will have an MRI scan that he has had to arrange and pay for himself due to the long waiting list in the hospital system.  This scan will determine what is holding back his left shoulder recovery, which prevents Matt from improving in his rehabilitation and physio.

Thursday 11th September - Matt had a suprise visit from Bree Chisholm who has come back for a short visit from India where she has been having stemcell treatment.  Bree took time out from her busy schedule to meet with Matt and Elyse.  I was privileged to be invited to meet Bree and share this visit.  Bree is so positive and has given Matt and his family an insight to what is out there.

Sunday 31st August- Matt had his first visit home for a day after spending 9 weeks in Hospital, this was a dream come true.  Matt looks forward to being home for Fathers Day and the goal to be home permanently is October 18th.  We here at BHS wish you well and knowing Maulla he will be there.

Whilst visiting Matt today 7th August the doctor arrived and gave Matt and the family great news:

After being flat on his back since 29th June they are comfortable to allow him to sit up in bed over the next few days and then fingers crossed come Monday 11th he should be able to move into a Wheelchair and be mobile.  This was the best news and myself personally had tears in my eyes….

Matt will be online come Friday 8th…a laptop has been arranged along with a wireless account…so at long last Matt can begin communicating to all his family, friends and fans.  There is only so much TV one can watch…says Matt.  Although I hear he has been watching many a cooking show…lol.
